Pretty Faces in the California Morning News

Here in the United States, especially in California, television news is basically the same as what happens in the Philippines.

The early morning newscasts here start at 4 a.m. compared to that in the Philippines when the news starts at 5 a.m.

But there are some similarities between here and there. For one thing, the morning newscasts report on crime as well as the previous night's news. Then the national morning shows come in at 7 am with Good Morning America on ABC, Today on NBC and CBS This Morning.

Fox Channel 2 is the only station whose morning newscast runs for six hours from 4-10 am.

All the networks then have their noontime newscasts before the daily talk shows come in. Then the news resumes at 4 pm till early evening when the primetime shows come in. The day ends with the late night news at 11 pm followed by the late night talk shows.

While watching the news, I couldn't help but notice the presence of a lot of pretty female news
anchors who have proven that they can give their male counterparts a run for their money.

ABC Channel 7's morning newscast has the pretty Natasha Zouves as main anchor while Jessica Castro does live desk updates, including breaking news from the internet. Zouves bears some physical resemblance to Filipina actress Maine Mendoza. Castro, for her part, has the same bubbly personality as ABS-CBN's Bernadette Sembrano and GMA's Rhea Santos.

Gasia Mikaelian of Fox 2

Fox 2 has Armenia-born Gasia Mikaelian whose day starts at 7 am until 10 am then she returns for the 12 noon news. Mikaelian also has her Facebook Live where she asks her followers on the feedback regarding the news of the day, Despite being European, Gasia has embraced the American culture so well and like Castro and Zouves, she does display a very energetic attitude towards her work.

NBC Bay Area's Kris Sanchez stars her day as a reporter for Today in the Bay then anchors the 11 am newscast. She is also fluent in Spanish as she occasionally reports and anchors for NBC's sister station Telemundo.

Ama Daetz of ABC

The afternoon newscasts also have their share of lovely faces. ABC 7's Ama Daetz is an African-American who looks like singer-actress Vanessa Williams. Daetz, who strikes me as a Vicky Morales-type anchor, does the afternoon and evening news.
Jessica Aguirre of NBC

Lastly, NBC's Jessica Aguirre does the 6 and 11 pm news. Aguirre is also fluent in Spanish because she was born in Cuba and it was because of her Spanish background that NBC sent her to cover the last Olympics in Rio. During her Olympic experience, Aguirre interviewed several Olympic athletes like Draymond Green, Michael Phelps, Kevin Durant and Simone Biles.

Yes, these ladies do deliver the news well and they've got the authority and credibility. This is something that our Filipina news anchors can learn from.
